Wedding-Cake

Tying the knot in the Lake District.

What could be more romantic than spending your special day in the Lake District?

Cumbria and the Lake District has long been regarded as one of the most romantic places in the UK. The area does not fall short of living up to that esteemed title. Picture it now: the setting, gorgeous mountain valleys and rolling hills punctuating the picturesque lakeside area, creating an undeniably perfect wedding backdrop.

The Lake District can offer a range of different wedding venues, from venues that cater for large parties to ones that specialise in more scaled back intimate celebrations. Make your vows in a small parish church steeped in history, or exchange rings at a civil ceremony overlooking one of the breathtaking lakes.

You can even get married by candlelight at Muncaster Castle, or go back to nature with a ceremony at The Footprint. This truly is a magical corner of the country to tie the knot in.

Check out these venues for wedding inspiration:

The Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery: Situated just north of Carlisle, Tullie House can offer you a choice of two rooms that are licensed for civil ceremonies. The first room is a Victorian Theatre with its impressive bridal entrance and tiered seating for up to 100 guests. For those looking for a more intimate wedding, the Morning Room, overlooking the Abbey Street gardens, can accommodate a wedding party of up to 30.

Over Water Hall: Nestled away in the unspoilt beauty of the northern Lake District, this elegant country house hotel is unbeatable for the partners looking for a peaceful hideaway, uninterrupted by outside noise and distractions. It is here you can celebrate your special day with your closest family and friends. The venue grants you exclusive use of the hall, its lovely reception rooms, stylish restaurant, cosy bar and extensive grounds.

Once you’ve tied the knot head on back to Beech Hill where we will provide the perfect ambiance for your wedding night, in one of our luxurious suites.

Rookin House Activity Centre

Let’s get one thing straight, the more exhausted the kids are after a long day of activities, the more likely they are to sleep soundly a night, giving you the opportunity to unwind at our hotels relaxed and comfortable restaurant and bar. However, finding suitable long lasting things for the kids to do can prove a challenge. To save you the unwanted pressure of thinking on the spot for ideas once your holiday is already in full swing, get to know Rookin House, your one stop shop for all things out door activities.

Rookin House Equestrian and Activity Centre is situated at Troutbeck, a mile and a quarter off the A66, between Penrith and Keswick. It is best to check the map on their website for the exact locale as there are other Troutbecks in the area. The Centre is about a 25 mile drive from Lake Windermere, along a beautiful scenic route. This may seem a little off the beaten track, but trust us it is well worth the extended car journey.

The centre boasts a plethora of outdoor challenges and sports. From the frivolous to the more complex, technical tasks. Sample the likes of quad biking, fishing, archery and JCB operation. The centre offers family packages, as well as individual options for adults and children. There are even couples packages, where you can choose from various combinations of activities to do throughout the day. Also, on offer at this fabulous venue is air riffle practice, human bowling (not for the faint hearted), tree climbing, Dakar off road (4×4 driving with a difference) and Madtrax (sort of like quad biking but way more extreme).

Visitors are guaranteed to have an unforgettable experience. In addition to all the unique activities on offer, the site itself boasts a spectacular lakeland backdrop. What could be more exhilarating than gliding down a zip wire with the timeless beauty of the onlooking peaks and hills, either side of you?

Worried about safety? Don’t be, Rookin House has over 20 years experience in providing activities to a range of different participants. Your safety whilst in their care is of paramount importance. All staff have received training and obtained the necessary qualifications to teach and supervise activities. Regular risk assessments are conducted to ensure that activities continue to be provided in an environment where risks are minimised. Furthermore, all equipment conforms to the British safety standard.

After an exhausting day of adrenaline and physical ardour, the only thing left for you to do is put your feet up back at Beech Hill and enjoy a fabulous meal in our relaxing surroundings.
