For those of you who wish to mark Christmas with traditional religious services, nearby Carlisle Cathedral runs fantastic services of prayer and celebration, to mark the birth of Christ.
The stunning ancient cathedral, with its dramatic stained glass, is a popular place to worship over the Christmas period and services are expected to attract large crowds of Christians, from the surrounding areas.
On the 21st of December, there is a ‘Festival of Reading’ and carols at 3pm. The carol service will feature a full choir, accompanied by an organist and on the order of service, is many a well loved carol.
To mark Christmas Eve, the cathedral hosts it’s Crib Service – suitable for young children, at 3pm in the church hall.
Later in the evening, will be another ‘Festival of Readings’ and again more Christmas carols, at 6.30pm.
Midnight Eucharist, will take place at 11.30pm on Christmas Eve, bringing us into Christmas morning, with songs and prayers.
On Christmas morning at 10:30, in between present opening time and Christmas lunch, will be the
Festival Eucharist for Christmas Day.

Christmas Attractions- By the Light of the Fool Moon at Muncaster Castle
If you happen to be staying with us over the festive period, you will be keen to discover some Christmas related activities to get you in the yuletide mood and keep those you are travelling with, entertained along the way.
One great Christmas activity happening in the local area, is a festival called; By the Light of the Fool Moon, taking place at Muncaster Castle in nearby Ravenglass, in Cumbria. Featuring live music and performances, By the Light of the Fool Moon is a thrilling display of entertainment, set in the stunning rooms of Muncaster Castle.
The theme of the collection of performances, centres around the idea that a full moon hasn’t occurred at the castle, for five centuries. As legend goes, the full moon should it happen, would spark a series of curious events. A Professor has arrived at the castle to uncover the dark tale. Join him in his quest to discover Muncaster’s deepest secrets.
By the Light of the Fool Moon is directed by Tom Spencer, leader the of multi-award winning play Fine Chisel. He is accompanied by a cast of experienced and talented actors and the performance features an original musical score.
The musical composition featured, allows us to experience the human voice in an a new and innovative way.
Similar to many of these events, audiences gather at a focal meeting point, in this case the castle’s pop-up Christmas bar, before being led away on a top secret tour, of the passages and corridors of the castle, normally not open to the public. The show ends with a merry feast in the great hall, where you can relax and discuss your take on the fabulous night.

The beautiful Lowreth Castle in Penrith Cumbria, has a range of amazing Christmas activities to offer in the coming weeks.
From 24th November to 24th December, between 10am-4pm, they will be hosting a Christmas Bazaar, in the stables of the castle grounds. The Bazaar will sell a range of hand made crafts and gifts and also some amazing locally sourced food and drink.
From the 12th of December, the Bazaar will also see artists exhibit in the Sculpture gallery. There is free entry and on offer will be prints, paintings, cards, and sculptures, all of which are created by local artists. This really is the perfect place for all your Christmas gift solutions.
With free parking on site and a lovely cafe with a seasonal menu, Lowreth Castle is the perfect spot for a bit of Christmas downtown, away from the dizzy rush of the high street.
The Coach House cafe in the courtyard, offers six hot lunch choices every day, with vegetarian options included, providing that much needed pit stop in between browsing for unearthed gems.
The castle’s gift shop has a beautiful range of Christmas gifts and decorations. You might just be lucky enough to find this years unique centre piece, for the family home. Christmas trees are also available to buy in the courtyard, courtesy of the castle’s groundskeeper.
