Here’s a date for the diary, all you car enthusiasts; April 25th. The last week end in April is when the city of Carlisle will host it’s famous Pirelli Carlisle Rally. For almost a quarter of a century the city has been home to this high speed, high thrill sport.  The event attracts some of the sports biggest superstars, all of whom are looking to blaze a trail of thunder through the historic Lakeland city. The high-speed action packed display is a must see for all petrol heads.

The rally really does bring the community together, with young and old residents alike lining the streets to catch a glimpse of celebrity drivers and to cheer on the gasoline-guzzling mean machines. It really is a colourful celebration of all things petrol-powered. The backdrop could not be more scenic, as the race sets off in full of view of Carlisle’s old town Hall.

The Pirelli Carlisle Rally is the only rally which has been a part of the official British Rally Championship since its beginnings. With the cancellation of this years British Championship, due to a last minute loss of contracts with the rally’s main promoters and despite no other rally of its type in the pipeline until 2016, Pirelli Carlisle will still go on as planned, but with a slightly different schedule than in previous years. The city will host a couple of other major series shows this year, including a round, rather than a whole event, of the British Historic Rally Championship, featuring a host of iconic rally cars from days gone by. There will also be a round of the R.A.C. Rally Championship, a National series set to bring in crowds of passionate spectators.

The Pirelli Rally takes place on April 25th in Carlisle city centre for more information goto  www.pirellicarlislerally.co.uk

The-Theatre-by-the-Lakeblog

Despite its isolated unspoilt country surroundings, the Lakes are still a hot bed of art, comedy and live shows. Plenty of the UK’s top entertainers visit this part of the country each year, entertaining locals and tourists alike at some of the UK’s most beautiful venues. While you are staying with us this spring, you might want to check out some of the acts performing at the Theatre by the Lake, namely the award winning comedian and star of a number of top-rated TV comedies; Dave Spikey.

Can a joke still be funny when you have been given the punchline beforehand? That is Dave Spikey’s million dollar question, that he ponders throughout his latest show. He revisits all the old classics, from nuns in the bath to Prince Charles’s fur hat and delivers the quips with the style and flair of a comedy heavyweight. A delightful mix of observational humour and nostalgic one liners, Spikey will have you in stitches from start to finish. If you are coming with kids please bear in mind the show is recommended for the over 16’s only. Tickets are priced £15 and the show is on April 23rd.

Also on the schedule in the near future at The Theatre by the Lake, are local band Water’s Edge, performing soulful ballads and upbeat dance floor numbers on April 15th. The legendary 80’s soul singer and former Culture Club backing singer Ruby Turner performs on April 12th and Scottish folk duo Phil Bain and Ally Cunningham are there on April 13th.

Theatre by the Lake is in Lakeside in Keswick. You would be hard pushed to find a more idyllic and stunning location anywhere in England.  There is also a great range of food on offer in the relaxing downstairs bar and cafe. Theatre by the Lake can offer you everything from smooth blended coffee to two course dinners, before an evenings show. Open between 10 am and 11pm on performance nights, the cafe is a great place to relax before or after your show and you can even take an evenings stroll by Derwentwater, just a minute away.

comp-sign-blog

Can we be certain that competitions/draws on twitter and other social media platforms are 100% transparent and fair?

After reading Di Coke’s Blog on Twitter Competitions/Draws – (http://superlucky.me/2014/09/choosing-winner-rt-giveaway/) which I would recommend to anyone interested is competitions/draws.  And having run many such draws over the last five years I can say hand on heart we have tried to ensure that the whole process is extremely fair.

However we have relied upon 3rd party software to randomly pick followers For RT & Follow draws or tweeters that have tweeted the hashtag we were using for just RT draws.  We use Tweetdraw currently to select our winners.

However as Di points out Tweetdraw only report a winner. They do not say from what pool of entries that winner has been chosen from. One has to draw ones own conclusions as to whether the pool they select a winner from is a complete list.  So clearly there are some “draw”backs for many promoters of such competitions & draws. Especially if you are a small business and don’t want to spend fortunes on what is essentially a bit of fun for your social media friends.

Di’s blog goes into some detail about other methods used so I don’t wish to repeat Di’s work on this, however I do want to let you know what the Beech Hill have decided to do so that our competitions/draws are beyond reproach and are 100% fair.

We asked our web developers to wright some bespoke software so that our twitter competition/draw’s entrants information is captured via our website and recorded in a csv file.

We will the remove any duplicate entries, and then a winner will be selected using Random.org to pick a number in the range of entries that are in the csv file.

And finally to make the whole experience slightly more fun to enter the draw. You will first have to find our Hidden Sign Post somewhere in our website. On the sign post the button to enter the draw can be found, all you will need to do then is fill your details in then and agree to our draw terms & conditions and send out a tweet saying that you found our Hidden Sign Post so that your mates/followers can see our draw too!

We intend to start using this Hidden Sign Post draw for our next draw on twitter. Our current draw #WinaHamper is due to finish on 6 April 2015 so I estimate our new draw will commence Mid April so do keep an eye out for it.

Happy Comping
